Churchill Downs is probably the most famous horse racing venue in the world. Located in beautiful Louisville, KY this impressive facility is as historic as its namesake race: The Kentucky Derby. Due to its impressive size, selecting tickets for the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs can be a confusing for first timers. Below is a list of the most prominent sections of Churchill Downs.

Clubhouse 110:

Clubhouse 110 has 42 boxes in a single row, row A, located in the 1st turn of the track. Clubhouse 110 are 8-10 seat boxes located up against the rail basically on top of the race track...all of the seats are metal folding chairs. This clubhouse box will give you the best action shot as the horses are leaving the front stretch for those looking for great horse racing photos. The boxes are all out in the open with no cover in the immediate area for inclement weather. To get to this area of the track, you will enter through Gate 17 of Churchill downs, walk behind Clubhouse 111, then down a narrow walkway behind the on track media area to the single row of Clubhouse boxes. The holder of this ticket has access to all of the 1st floor clubhouse, the paddock area to view the horses prior to each race, the Churchill Downs gift shop, betting windows, and concessions.

Clubhouse 111:

Clubhouse 111 is the largest clubhouse section at Churchill downs with a total of 329 boxes with a total of 1974 seats. The boxes start with row A on the rail of the racetrack and are elevated going all the way up to row S. All of the clubhouse boxes in 111 are 6 seat boxes with metal folding chairs. None of these boxes are covered. Clubhouse 111 is the best area to put groups as they can typically be put into consecutive boxes in consecutive rows. All of this clubhouse section is located out in the open on turn 1. There are concessions, betting windows, and restrooms located directly behind this section, as well as access to the Marquee Village if you have tickets to a hospitality tent.

Clubhouse 112:

Clubhouse 112 is located between the first turn of the Churchill Downs race track and the Finish line. There are 9 rows in this Clubhouse section, rows A-I, with approximately 1782 seats with 6 metal folding chairs in each box. All of the seats and rows in this clubhouse section are located out in the open with no cover from inclement weather or sun. There are concessions, betting windows, and restrooms located directly behind this 1st floor Clubhouse section.

Clubhouse 113:

Clubhouse 113 has approximately 16 rows, with half being under cover and half out in the open. There are 15 boxes in each row, giving this section approximately 240 boxes in this section, and 1460 seats. There is a walkway between rows H and J, and row J is the first row barely undercover...if it's raining, row J will be on the drip-line. All but a few of these boxes are 6 seat boxes with metal folding chairs in each box. There are a couple of 8, 9, and 10 seat boxes in this clubhouse section, but Great Atlantic Travel will only sell this section as 6 seat boxes. Row P is the last row up against the wall, and has a very limited row of the racing action, but you will be out of any inclement weather.

Clubhouse 114:

Clubhouse 114 has 13 rows, rows A-M. Rows A-L is composed of 6 seat boxes, and row M are 8 seat boxes...all seats are metal folding chairs. There are a total of 180 boxes in rows A-L, or approximately 1080 seats, and then approximately another 100 seats as 8-seat boxes in row M. Rows A-F are located in the open, and row G is the first row located under cover, though you will be on the drip-line if it rains, so in our expert opinion, row H is the best row of the section being out of inclement weather and the very best view of the horse racing action. There are also multiple television sets affixed to poles within the covered area of this section for viewing of the race.

Clubhouse 115:

Clubhouse 115 has 12 rows, A-L, with row L being up against the wall undercover. There are 19 boxes in each row of this section, Box 1 being closest to turn 1 of Churchill downs race track, giving this section approximately 228 boxes and 1370 seats. Due to support poles in the areas that are undercover, some of the boxes are 4, 5, and 8 seat boxes, but the majority of those boxes are 6 seat boxes, which is how Great Atlantic Travel sells this section. Rows A-G are located in the open, with rows H-L all being completely undercover in case of inclement weather or too much sun. In our expert opinion, row H is the best row in this section as the boxes in this row are all undercover and you will have the best view of the horse racing action.

Clubhouse 116:

Clubhouse 116 is one of the best 1st floor Clubhouse sections at Churchill Downs for viewing the Kentucky Derby and Oaks. There are 12 rows in this clubhouse section, A-L, and the majority of this section are all 6 seat boxes (box 1 in row G has 4 seats, and box 20 in row G has 8 seats) with metal folding chairs. Rows A through F are located in the open with no cover, and there is a walkway which separates rows F and G. Rows G - L are undercover with row G being located under the drip-line, so this would make row H, in our opinion, the best section for viewing the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks due to it being out of the weather and great viewing area. There are approximately 240 boxes in this section and 1440 seats.

This is the smallest 1st floor clubhouse box consisting of only 23 boxes total allowing for only approximately 138 seats, being 6 seat boxes with metal folding chairs. The horses enter the race between this section and Clubhouse 117. Box 1 of this section is closest to the Finish line. Row B is the first row of this section, and row I is the last. Boxes 4, 5, and 6 of rows H and I are located undercover, but the rest of the section.
